Korte beschrijving
Pieter Emans is afgestudeerd voor de studie geneeskunde in 2000. In 2007 is hij gepromoveerd op het gebied van kraakbeenherstel. Het wetenschappelijk onderzoek naar kraakbeenherstel kan worden voortgezet dankzij financiering uit de Goran Bauer prijs van de Nordic Orthopaedic Foundation (NOF) en via een langlopend project (LLP) van ReumaNL. De opleiding tot Orthopaedisch chirurg volgde hij in Sittard en Maastricht. Na het afronden van zijn opleiding tot medisch specialist heeft hij een Lars Peterson fellowship gevolgd op het gebied van kraakbeenherstel en gewrichtssparende Orthopaedie in de VS (Boston, Chicago, LA, San Diego). Sinds 2010 is Pieter specialist in het MUMC+. In deze functie is hij hoofd van het Center for Translational Mobility Research waarbij nauw samengewerkt wordt met het Laboratory for Experimental Orthopaedics. Pieter is grondlegger van de Gewrichtssparende kliniek (www.orthopaedie.mumc.nl/gewrichtssparende kliniek) en mede oprichter van Chondropeptix B.V. en Avalanche Medical B.V.

Werkervaring
Orthopaedic Surgeon since 2010. Based upon PhD topic and fellow-ship I have an interest in cartilage, early osteoarthritis, and of course in (surgical) solutions to prevent/treat patients with (early) osteoarthritis.
